School Nurse Wellness Coordinator (SNWC) Graduate Nursing Certificate

The School Nurse Wellness Coordinator (SNWC) Graduate Nursing Certificate provides a strong foundation in health promotion and wellness, emergency preparedness, and health service leadership in the school community. Completion of the SNWC Certificate requirements meets the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) requirements to apply for the Professional Pupil Services License as a School Nurse Wellness Coordinator. A SNWC endorsement may be added to The Ohio Department of Education (ODE) professional pupil services school nurse license upon evidence of three years of successful experience as a licensed school nurse.  

Licensure

This certificate is for students who intend to seek employment in Ohio and only prepares students for licensure in the state of Ohio. If a student's permanent residence is in a state or territory other than Ohio, they can only enroll in the SNWC if they agree that, upon graduation, they intend to seek employment in Oho. Out-of-State students states must meet with their advisors to sign a formal attestation form.

Admission Requirements

A registered nurse holding a master's degree from an accredited institution, with a cumulative graduate grade point average of at least 3.00 on a 4.00 scale. Applicants are required to complete at least 3 years full-time experience as a LSN for admission to the SNWC Program.

Admission is on a rolling basis. Students may apply and begin coursework during any semester. the flexible curriculum allows for students to complete the certificate in 9-12 months (2-3 semesters). A curriculum guide will be completed for each student based upon the needs and timeframe that best fits the student's schedule.

1. Submit a $30 application fee

2. Submit official academic transcript(s) from accredited institutions of higher education documenting all undergraduate and graduate degrees awarded.

3. Cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above

4. Submit a copy of active RN Licensure;

5. Submit a copy of active ODE Pupil Services License; and

6. Submit verification of school nursing working experience to:

Completion Timelines

The student must complete all requirements for the SNWC Graduate Nursing Certificate within four years after matriculation in the certificate.

Special consideration will be given for leaves of absence for adequate cause. The student who fails to take courses or otherwise continue to pursue the certificate for a period of three consecutive semesters will be terminated from the active file and will be required to reapply for readmission. The Coordinator of the SNWC certificate will reevaluate the student’s courses, recommend any course work for audit, and approve registration. Upon readmission, there is no loss of credit, though the four-year limit will be observed.

Upon completion of the SNWC Graduate Nursing Certificate, the student will be able to:

1. Demonstrate competent levels of nursing care and professional behavior based on the scope and standards of school nursing practice, health, and education.

School Nurse Wellness Coordinator as Cognate Area for M.Ed. Adult Education Degree Completion

The School Nurse Wellness Coordinator Graduate Nursing Certificate represents one of the options for completion of required 12 credit hour cognate areas within the Master's of Education in Adult Education. The cognate is an individualized specialty area of study encompassing the student’s interests and needs.
