Description
Prerequisite: CLC 7729 This course focuses upon the need for clinical counselors to arrive at the correct diagnosis by the end of the intake process and explores the method and means for doing so. Special emphasis is given to the appropriate use of the DSM-IV-TR (and the current version of the ICD) in terms of the symptoms, etiology and psychodynamics of the various mental and emotional disorders. The mental status examination will be highlighted during the course, as will the ethical, legal, and professional standards of care which apply to diagnosis.
