Basic Vocabulary

Students will build their basic vocabulary (BICS) from the General Service List in order to function in everyday American life. Students will work with synonyms, antonyms, roots, and affixes in order to promote more rapid expansion of vocabulary, as well as using these words in various contexts including word form charts, readings, journaling and interactive activities in class in order to promote deep learning and retention. The emphasis in class will be on speaking, so pronunciation of key vocabulary will be practiced as well.
