Description

This course is an upper-intermediate to low-advanced level reading and writing course. It seeks to develop students' reading and vocabulary skills and help them continue to hone various reading strategies, such as inference-making, comprehending context clues, and summarizing passages. Students are now reading at speeds that allow greater comprehension at the discourse level, and will be introduced to semi-authentic academic texts as well as authentic academic texts. This level is the introduction and development of the formal essay form. students will work to produce longer and more sophisticated academic works with transitions, support, and coherence at a global level. They will also expand their range to explore multiple genres of writing.
