Overview
Description
This course places the life and writings of Martin Luther and his contemporaries in the social, historical and theological context of 16th century Germany. Luther's development of thought will be traced by reading primary texts that represent his work in Biblical interpretation, dogmatic theology and practical theology. The writings of other important Wittenberg theologians, especially Melanchthon and Karlstadt, will also be explored. An important feature of the course includes visits to many of the sites in Germany where these ideas developed and where the writings were composed. Meets Core credit for humanities.
